Welcome
Visiting a new church, or any new place for that matter, can be scary. New faces, new environment, and unwritten expectations that you don't know about, all contribute to apprehensions toward visiting a church. We understand, because, at one point or another, we've all been there. We will do our best to make you feel welcome, and hopefully the information provided below will help set your expectations before you walk in the door.
What to expect
During a regular week, we typically have four different services.
Services
Sunday School (9:15 AM - 10:15 AM Sundays)
Our Sunday School hour is geared toward education. The children and teens have age-appropriate classes geared toward teaching them the truths from God's word and how it applies to their lives. Children 4 and above begin this time in the auditorium together with the adults before being dismissed to their respective classes, while 2 1/2 to 3 year-olds start the morning in their classroom.
Adult classes are based on an elective format, where you are free to choose from several options. The topics in these classes vary, but often include an in-depth study of a book of the Bible, instruction in foundational Christian living, and explanation of philosophical or doctrinal positions.
Nurseries are also available for children not yet old enough for these classes.
Sunday Morning Worship (10:30 AM - 11:45 AM Sundays)
Our Sunday morning service is geared toward collective worship of God and instruction from the Bible. The music in our service is conservative, consisting primarily of hymns and praise songs. Through expository preaching, we aim to clearly understand what the Bible says and how it applies to us today.
Children ages 5 years through 6th grade join their parents in the Auditorium before being dismissed to their Junior Church classes. Children ages 3 - 4 years start in their classroom before the service begins.
Nurseries are also available for children under the age of three.
Sunday Evening Worship (6:30 PM - 7:45 PM Sundays)
Our Sunday evening service follows the same pattern as the morning service, but is somewhat more informal.
During this service, our Children's Ministry (Calvary Clubs) and Teen Ministry (Teens in Traning) focus on discipling children and youth in their faith. The 3 year olds through 6th graders begin the night in the North Hall for Calvary Clubs, while the Teens begin in the youth room in the basement. These two ministries run throughout the school year. During the summer months, similar ministries are available for children and youth.
Nurseries are also available for children under the age of three.
Prayer meeting and Bible Study (7:00 PM - 8:00 Wednesdays)
Wednesday evenings are more casual, focusing on fellowship and Bible study. On the first Wednesday of the month, we gather for an hour of prayer. On the second and fourth Wednesdays, the adults, college students and teens meet for various Bible studies. Periodically throughout the year we offer a more academically focused Bible Institute course on Wednesday nights. For more information visit our Current Bible Studies page.
How do people normally dress?
Our chief concern is that you come, not what you wear when you do! That said, most people in the church typically wear something in the range of "business casual" for most services. On Sunday morning, some of the men elect to wear suits and the women more formal dresses; while on Sunday and Wednesday evenings most are dressed fairly casually.
